Textbook, meet Facebook

On May 23, 2011, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed that he would like to make Facebook is considering altering the regulations making the site available to children of all ages. According to an article posted on FoxNews.com, Zuckerberg sites possible educational uses for the social media giant.

Which, of course, begs the question: What would be the educational uses for social media like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter?

It seems like there could be a group on Facebook that could serve as an online, collaborative help desk. Students could post questions and other students could comment or answer the question. While that certainly is a functional use of social media, is there really a demand for something like that?

Currently, I suspect that there isn’t. At least not in my district where Facebook is blocked while at school and most students don’t engage in tons of work outside of school.

However, I am never a man to turn down a good idea. So, I am putting out an all-call. Please post any good, educational uses for Facebook or Twitter (I don’t have a Myspace, so leave that one out) and the best one(s) may get used in class.

Post your ideas in the comments.
